What is tree planting soil?

Tree soil is a blend of carefully selected and graded silica sand and composted green waste from accredited suppliers to add organic matter.

Have a look at the WRAP case study on the benefits of using Heicom tree soil for urban tree planting.

Heicom (NL) has already successfully supplied sites for several years and is confident, as in the case of their tree sand, of the economies and benefits this new product offers to the landscape industry.

For more information have a look at our tree soil technical information page.

Why use tree soil?

  • It replaces costly imported topsoil of inconsistent quality and availability, too often previously contaminated, as backfill around the root ball in the tree pit.

  • This manufactured tree planting soil offers more stability and better drainage. It also improves access of water and oxygen to the root system. The organic matter provides the nutrients for the tree to thrive.

When to use tree soil

It's intended application is for mainly urban (but non hard surface) tree planting schemes where good quality top soil is not readily available (i.e. central islands, concrete tree pits, roof tops, green zoning etc.).
